Samsung – Smart devices

The pitch

Samsung wanted to promote their Smart sensors in retail environment, they asked my team and I to come up with an engaging and educational concept for their biggest store in Canada.

We decide not build an interactive installation, leveraging touchscreen interactions coupled with their Sensors. The installation was made of 3 parts.

Left Part

Equipped with a smart bulb and a motion sensor, this part of this installation was for the user to engage with the motion sensor to trigger certain behavior on the certain bulb, this was also accompany with demo video on a Samsung tablet for the user to try set up their own behavior. The goal was to show the user how easy it is to use Samsung SmartThings App and have your whole connected.

Right Part

Equipped with a small window with sensors and a smart thermostat, this part of the installation would change the temperature when the window was open. Like the left part, its goal was to create interactions with the user to better educate them around Smart homes and how easy it is to use Samsung SmartThings App.

Central part

This part of the experience aimed to create empathy with the user, projecting them inside an animated house that could easily be theirs. The Smart Sensors position in front of a large touchscreen would make the user zoom in certain rooms in the house and start animation when the user would pull them form the stand. This animation and room specific to each sensor was giving them a taste of what a connected home could be. Once soomed in the house, they could also navigate from room to room and trigger product detail information when tapping on sensors on the screen.

Conclusion

This installation was a big success for the client who then proceed to adapt this installation to smaller retail locations. By working in Agile and using Design Thinking, we were able to regularly test our design and experience to improve every iterations.
